We help businesses and commercial property owners to become environmentally savvy through the Sustainable Australia Fund.

Financing options are available to help you access environmental upgrades including:

  • solar panels
  • energy efficient lighting
  • improved heating and cooling equipment
  • water conservation and waste water management

Want to know how it works? Check out this brief video explanation!

Interested in a loan to help you with an environmental improvement? Contact Council's Sustainability team by email at or visit the Sustainable Australia Fund website.

Loans can be designed to ensure potential savings are greater than the quarterly loan repayment.

The fixed interest loan is tied to the property (ie not the business) and paid back via Council’s rates mechanism.

So far in Yarra Ranges we have helped 4 businesses install roof top solar using the environmental upgrade mechanism:

  • A 96kW solar system at the Aurrum Aged Care facility in Healesville.
  • A 70 kW solar system at the 4 Pillars Gin Distillery, also in Healesville
  • A 30kW solar system plus LED lighting at Oscars on the Yarra in Warburton
  • A 20kW solar system plus LED lighting at Brumfield Winery in Seville

Craig Rutherford, CEO of Aurrum said that the 96kW system they have installed is predicted to supply 85% of their daytime needs during summer.  The success of this system has also led them to consider an expansion.

The operation at the 4 Pillars Gin Distillery has also been a success with their installation on the landmark Healesville site. Behn Payten, 4 Pillars Operations Manager, commented that the system has reduced their day-time power along with noticeable shading which offer a cooler production area in summer.

Both Craig and Behn have commented on how easy it was to organise the Environmental Upgrade Finance with Council and SAF.
