As the local government elections will be held on 26 October 2024, Yarra Ranges Council will assume a caretaker role from Tuesday 17 September 2024. During the caretaker period, there will be limited changes made to the content on Council's websites. Information will only be added to this website in accordance with caretaker requirements.
Council proposes to review its Special Charge Scheme policy as a result of the Federal government funding cuts announced in January 2023. Part of the review may consider a new Landowner and Council funding mix for unfunded roads. With the review of Council’s Special Charge Scheme policy, limited funding, contractor and resource availability, Council encourage residents to advocate for the original funding commitment to be honoured rather than presenting a petition to Council at this stage. The Local Government Act 1989 enables Councils to levy rates and charges to provide improved infrastructure for their local communities.
