This decade marks the centenary of the landscape designer Edna Walling’s arrival in Mooroolbark which lead to the establishment of Bickleigh Vale Village. To mark the historic occasion, Open Gardens Victoria in conjunction the Friends of Edna Walling at Bickleigh Vale will be opening the private gardens of 8 properties. Some of these have heritage listings.
This is a unique opportunity to see Edna Walling’s vision 100 years on, and to talk to owners about how they keep the vision of Edna Walling alive, as they are adapting it to climate change and changing resident needs. As well as exploring the gardens there will also be opportunities
* have a Devonshire Teas at Devon Cottage, or a BBQ at Downderry
* imbibe real coffee from coffee vans,
* purchase creative work
* see a display of historic photos and artefacts
* listen to talks by residents about the history and heritage of Bickleigh Vale, the experience of living in this unique community, and its wildlife.
