Tree management program

Yarra Ranges is home to some of the most significant vegetation in the state, providing substantial ecological value within the natural catchments surrounding metropolitan Melbourne.

There are approximately 1,250ha of Council controlled parks and reserves and 1,757km of road corridors, with a further 600km of roadsides on main roads, with an estimated tree population to be in excess of 5 million.

During the lead up to the fire season, we are particularly busy with the electric line clearance program which ensures all our trees located within a declared area of the Yarra Ranges meet the clearance regulations provided by AUSNET.

Council is responsible for many of the trees within parks, reserves and roadsides across the Yarra Ranges, however other authorities also manage tree works across the municipality, including the Department of Transport (formerly VicRoads), the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA), Parks Victoria, Melbourne Water and electric line clearance by AUSNET (for the majority of the Shire not managed by Council).
