Future Forests Corporate Planting Program

Group planting in Woori Yallock

Restoring habitat across the Yarra Ranges is essential for maintaining healthy eco systems and to provide shelter and food for wildlife. Your corporate group, staff or team can play a vital role in habitat restoration by planting indigenous trees, shrubs and groundcovers at one of our planting events.

Why join a planting day?

  • Excellent team building activity
  • Great way to connect with nature and learn about the importance of revegetation
  • Contribute to your company’s environmental goals.

Planting days take place between May and September and we offer different levels of service – see our packages below. FAQ's

What can we expect on the day?

One of Council’s Bushland Officers will provide an introduction to the site including an OHS briefing and how to plant tubestock. Plant holes will be pre-dug and plants will be laid out leaving the fun part to your staff – getting plants in the ground!

Your team will be planting indigenous trees, groundcovers and shrubs. In some locations plants will need to be staked and guarded to protect them from wildlife and/or the elements.

Do we need to bring anything?

Each person should bring their own gardening gloves and water bottle. Clothing should be appropriate for the season i.e. raincoat, long sleeved top, long pants. Closed toe, waterproof footwear should be worn as some planting areas can be wet and boggy.

You will need to bring your own morning or afternoon tea as required and beverages (all packages).

If you’ve chosen the Pobblebonk Frog Package you will need to provide lunch for your employees or ask them to bring their own. Alternatively, you can support a local business by purchasing lunch there.

What type of food can we expect? (Wedge-Tailed Eagle and Wombat Packages)

The Wedge-Tailed Eagle and Wombat Packages include catering supplied by a local Yarra Ranges business or social enterprise.

Lunch will consist of vegetarian items such as wraps or sandwiches or frittata or a combination. There will also be something sweet such as fruit or small cakes/biscuits. For vegans, gluten free or other dietary requirements please ensure you note this on the catering form you will receive once you’ve registered for a planting day. Liquid beverages must be supplied by your business, or each staff member can bring their own.

What about staff with accessibility needs?

Before booking, please contact us via futureforests@yarraranges.vic.gov.au to discuss any individual needs staff may have. Depending on the location we may/may not be able to accommodate individual needs.

Some packages mention toilets, some don’t...can you explain?

The Wedge-Tailed Eagle and Wombat Packages include a portable toilet that will be located at the planting location for you.

If you're booking the Pobblebonk Frog Package check where the nearest toilet is located when booking your event as you may need to stop before arriving at the planting location. In some cases a public toilet may be a long walk/short drive away.

What does the walk and talk involve? (Wedge-Tailed Eagle Package)

Depending on the day and location we may conduct a walk and talk that covers flora and fauna of the area, local history and indigenous cultural information.

What is the onsite business plaque?

Following your planting day Council will install a plaque with your business name at the planting site.

How will our participation be promoted?

The Wedge-Tailed Eagle and Wombat Packages include post-event promotion on Council’s social media platforms and eNewsletters. A staff member will take photos on the day to share online. We also encourage you (and your staff) to take photos to share via your own socials and communication platforms.

What if we have more than 50 people or special requirements?

If you have more than 50 people or have special requirements we encourage you to get in touch with us via futureforests@yarraranges.vic.gov.au and discuss those with us. Every attempt will be made to accommodate you.

What are the transport options?

You and you staff will be required to get yourselves to the planting location. Carpooling is advised due to limited car parking. We can organise a bus to transport all participants from the Civic Centre at 15 Anderson Street Lilydale to and from the planting location. This will incur an extra charge, please ask for a quote when booking or enquiring about a planting day.

What happens in the event of extreme weather?

Scheduled plantings and activities may be postponed or modified due to extreme weather (e.g., heat, thunderstorms, high fire danger), site safety concerns, or other emergencies. On extreme fire risk, total fire ban or other declared emergency days, Council may cancel or reschedule the session at its discretion.
