Pests and Wildlife

Bees and wasps

Learn more about bees and wasps and how you can raise a request to get a nest inspected if it's causing a hazardous risk.

Common (Indian) Myna

Common Mynas threaten native biodiversity due to their territorial behaviours and competition for nests. find out how you can help minimise the impact of this bird.

Deer

Wild deer are considered pests in the Yarra Ranges. Learn about their impact on the environment, what Council is doing and what you can do to help.

Foxes

Queensland Fruit Fly

The Queensland Fruit Fly (QFF) is a native fly from northern Australia that has become a serious horticultural pest. As Melbourne’s average climate is becoming warmer, QFF is becoming an increasing risk to both local horticultural industries and backyard fruit and veggie growers.

Rabbits

Wild rabbits are a declared pest in Victoria and landowners have a responsibility to take reasonable steps to eradicate them from their land.

Rats and Mice

Introduced rats and mice are considered pests in Victoria, however, we also have species of native rats in the Yarra Ranges.

Snakes

Snakes can be found throughout many areas across the Yarra Ranges, particularly during the warmer months. Find out how to stay safe around snakes and what to do if you see one.
