Electronic Waste (E-waste)

Person sorting through electronic waste

Electronic waste cannot be placed in your household bins. Electrical waste or ‘e-waste’ is any item with a plug, battery or power cord that is no longer working or wanted. Plugs, chargers and cords are also considered e-waste. As of 2019 it is illegal to dispose of e-waste in your household bins in Victoria. These items contain harmful chemicals, as well as precious metals that can be recycled.

How to dispose of e-waste

Hard Rubbish

E-waste can be placed out for hard rubbish collection for appropriate disposal. Small items can be placed in a box clearly marked ‘E-waste’ ready for collecting.

Waste Transfer Stations

E-waste can be taken to waste transfer stations for disposal. This may incur a fee.

Recycling Drop Off Points

Some electronic and office supply stores provide free drop off for computer and TV recycling. Contact the store or their website for more information.
