Carers
Carers come from all walks of life and circumstances to provide unpaid care and support to family, friends or those living around them. Carers hold an integral place in the Australian health system and are foundational to our aged, disability, palliative and community care systems.
Carers provide unpaid care and support to those:
- living with disability
- frail due to age
- living with mental illness
- living with an ongoing medical condition (terminal or chronic)
- living with a alcohol or other drug issue
In 2023, 15% of residents in the Yarra Ranges, or 1 in 7 people, reported providing unpaid assistance for someone due to disability, chronic illness, or age. This is compared compared to 12.6% of Greater Melbourne.
