Community Recycling Hubs

Community recycling hubs provide a convenient way to drop off select household items that cannot be placed in your kerbside bins, making it easier for you to safely recycle items and protect people, bin collection trucks and drivers, and the environment. The hubs are delivered in partnership with Sustainability Victoria.

FAQs

What happens to the items?

Items collected through the recycling hubs are sent to specialist recyclers for recycling or safe disposal. This helps recover valuable resources, reduce risk and keep harmful materials out of landfill.

Why do the hubs only take specific items?

The hubs are designed to take items that cannot be placed into kerbside bins and that are difficult to recycle locally.

What happens if the recycling hub is full?

The hub contents are regularly collected by our recycling partner. If the chute is full do not leave your items beside the hub. Take them to another drop-off location or come back another day.

Why can’t batteries go in kerbside bins?

Batteries can ignite when crushed inside collection trucks. This can cause fires that put drivers, the community and the environment at risk. The hubs provide a safe disposal option that also allows components to be recycled.

What can I do with items that can't go into the hub?

If an item cannot be placed in the hub check Council's online A-Z Waste guide or download a copy of the Yarra Ranges Waste and Recycling Guide(PDF, 5MB) or visit Recycle Mate.
