Creative Communities

Creative communities MONA

We are developing a new Creative Communities Strategy to guide the delivery of services and initiatives for the next ten years (2018 – 2028).

Yarra Ranges is known for its creative communities. Its uniqueness is consistently expressed through art, design, performance and storytelling, providing a dynamic foundation for local culture.

This strategy will ensure that creativity through arts, culture and heritage remains central to how we live.

 Coming up in 2018

In 2018 we will use the feedback we gathered from our community engagement process to develop a draft Creative Communities Strategy.

We will be seeking feedback on the draft strategy from our communities before it is finalised.

Please stay tuned to our news page for updates on the project.

What we achieved in 2017

Between August and September 2017 we undertook community engagement initiatives to hear your thoughts.

Our Creative Communities Forum attracted 180 attendees, 12 speakers and panellists which coordinated 7 interactive workshops.

The mobile Culture Bucks program went to 18 locations across Yarra Ranges, receiving feedback from 1,000 participants about their cultural priorities.

An online survey gathered feedback from 217 participants and in-depth focus groups were held with 100 people from Council’s partners and advisory committees.

Key themes

  • Developing networks and connections
  • Facilitating co-working and collaborative spaces
  • Economic impact through creative industries
  • Supporting and encouraging leadership development.

These key themes will be used to develop the draft strategy which will be shared in early 2018
