Understanding Community Capital - the Fundamentals
Understanding Community Capital - the Fundamentals is an engaging and interactive workshop that helps communities make sense of capital including what it is, why it matters, how it shapes everyday life in your place and how you can take more control of it. Capital includes the land and buildings we use, the natural assets that sustain us, the enterprises and services we rely on, and the financial resources that enable ideas to become reality. These forms of capital underpin community wellbeing, influencing who has access to resources, how value is created, and whether benefits stay local or leak away.
This workshop breaks capital down in a practical, accessible way. You’ll explore how capital is generated, accessed, owned, governed, invested and shared — and why understanding these fundamentals gives communities more influence over energy, services, development and other assets that matter. Participants will leave with a clearer picture of how capital works in their community, new ways to think about engaging with it, and practical ideas to help ensure local assets and activities deliver lasting benefit for people and place.
