What is The Adaptation Game?

The Adaptation Game is a tailored journey curated to safely explore climate shocks in our region. It is a facilitated, cooperative tabletop experience, open to community members aged 18+.

Using local Yarra Ranges maps, data and climate projections, we'll simulate realistic scenarios relating to heatwaves, floods, bushfires or storms. Working in small groups, participants tell stories about how they'd prepare for, respond to and adapt to these extreme weather events as individuals and community members.

This interactive workshop turns abstract climate threats into concrete, actionable strategies. Participants will identify practical steps they can take home, to their street and through community networks, whilst learning about resilience programs already underway in the Hills.

Who’s it for?

All community members (18+) are welcome. You don’t need to have any special knowledge or skills, just an ability to take part in small group discussions and storytelling over four hours.

This is an active participation workshop for adults, not a casual drop-in activity. It is about interacting with others and exploring real challenges facing our community.

A light lunch will be provided.

Why is the Belgrave Tecoma Township Group hosting this event?

We want to support community members to connect with each other and have conversations about how climate change is affecting and will affect us. We aim to increase community resilience, knowing our township has very high levels of climate risk, including climate-fuelled flooding, bushfires and extreme wind.
