Storytelling: paths to belonging

Permaculture Yarra Valley & Singing Blackbird Enterprises present:

In this three hour interactive workshop Colm will explore pathways to creatively respond to the deep wound of not belonging in the Australian landscape.

Colm is the son of migrants. His mum is English and from Liverpool, England and his Dad is from a village in the Glens of Antrim in the North of Ireland. He grew up in the context of 'the Troubles' - the most recent manifestation of this more than 800 year old colonial conflict.

He will share insights from his own 35 year healing journey in and around the workings of inter-generational trauma, and specifically the role of place-based storytelling in that process.

Weaving insights from his own healing journey, Colm will examine how non-Indigenous people prepare themselves, individually and collectively to become part of place, this includes:

• addressing and transforming our relationship to shame, guilt and 'paralysis'

• deepening our listening practices in place / Country

• developing our skills around collective grieving and healing our Ancestral wounds

• reimagining initiations, the role of Elderhood and an Tuath.

• learning to recognise and tend the sacred in our everyday lives

• how all of this weaved together through creating a 'culture of storytelling'

In this way we can develop the skills and the collective container to be able to building dialogues not only with Indigenous people and Country but also with our true selves.
