Take part in the Southern Hemisphere's largest citizen science project by using iNaturalist to record observations of Yarra Ranges flora and fauna.

The 'Great Southern BioBlitz', or 'GSB' for short, is an international period of intense biological surveying in an attempt to record all the living species within several designated areas across the Southern Hemisphere in Spring.

If you've never used iNaturalist before, watch our short how-to video (below) or a more in-depth iNaturalist for beginners webinar is also available.

How to participate

  1. Download the iNaturalist app on your phone or create an account at iNaturalist.ala.org.au
  2. Join the Yarra Ranges Great Southern BioBlitz Project
  3. Take photos (or record sounds) of fauna and flora between Friday 27 November and Monday 30 November (inclusive) and upload them to iNaturalist. You can use your phone app to add observations or you can use a digital camera and upload your photos to iNaturalist.ala.org.au using a computer. Your observations will automatically be added to the Yarra Ranges project.
