Apply for a septic system permit

Before you start

A permit is required to install or alter a septic system. Assessment of application and inspections are included in the application fee.

If you need to alter your application after it has been approved, you will need to apply for a public health assessment and approval of your changes.

Permit to Install a Septic System  $750.00
Permit to Alter (Major) a Septic System  $750.00
Permit to Alter (Minor) a Septic System  $580.00

Information you will need to provide within your application:

  • Site Plan: A3 or A4 Scaled Plan - showing the property boundaries, location of the proposed septic system and effluent disposal area in relation to dwellings, waterways, dams, etc.
  • Floor Plan: A3 or A4 Scaled Plan - showing the internal layout of existing and proposed buildings. Where an extension to a building is proposed, you need to highlight the proposed extension on the plan.
  • Copy of the Certificate of Conformity: A copy of a Certificate of Conformity is issued by a body accredited under the Joint System of Australia and New Zealand (or any other accreditation body approved by the Authority), confirming that the proposed on-site wastewater treatment plant meets the appropriate standard.
