Food, Accommodation & Health Registration Fees - FAQs

What does the establishment fee cover?

The establishment fee covers the cost of a Health Officer assessing your application and reviewing and approving your plans. It includes the initial inspection of your premises and one follow up inspection (if required) prior to registration.

What does the food & health registration fees cover?

The registration fee covers the cost of a Health Officer inspecting your premises within the first 3 months of you opening your business and one follow up inspection, if required. If you have paid a full fee, it also allows for your annual inspection, including one follow up inspection.

Annual registration fees cover the cost of your any sampling the Health Officer may need to do, phone calls, emails, newsletters and complaint inspections, as required.

What does the Aquatic Registration Fee cover?

The registration fee covers the cost of a Health Officer assessing your application and reviewing and approving your Water Quality Risk Management Plan.

This includes a Health Officer inspecting your premises within the first 3 months of you opening your business and one follow up inspection, if required. If you have paid a full fee, it also allows for your annual inspection, including one follow up inspection.

Annual registration fees cover the cost of your any sampling the Health Officer may need to do, phone calls, emails, newsletters and complaint inspections, as required.

What does the Streatrader establishment fee cover?

The establishment fee covers the cost of a Health Officer assessing your Streatrader application and reviewing and approving your plans. It includes the initial inspection of each of your temporary food premises (mobile trucks, water carter trucks and vending machines) and one follow up inspection (if required) prior to registration.

What does the Streatrader food registration fee cover?

The registration fee covers the cost of a Health Officer inspecting your premises within the first 3 months of you opening your business and one follow up inspection, if required.

If you have paid a full fee, it also allows for your annual inspection, including one follow up inspection, if required.

This fee also covers the cost of your any food sampling the Health Officer may need to do, phone calls, emails, newsletters and complaint inspections, as required.

This fee is payable for each mobile premises, water carter truck and vending machine.

This fee is only payable once per registration if you have multiple temporary premises. e.g. stalls, marquees etc. the fees refundable?

The establishment fee is non-refundable.

The additional inspection fee is non-refundable.

The registration fee may be refundable, depending on your circumstances. Apply for a refund of your registration fee.

Why do I need to pay the full fee from 1 October?

If your initial registration is approved from 1 October to 31 December, we will register your premises until 31 December of the following year.

This provides you with the remaining months of the current year at no charge.

You will not be required to pay a renewal fee until 30 November of the following year.

Why is my registration renewal fee due by 30 November?

Your registration is valid until 31 December each year.

We require you to apply and pay for your renewal of registration by 30 November each year to allow enough time for the Health Officers to approve all registrations and issue the new registration certificates before 31 December.

This allows you to continue trading from 1 January each year.

Why aren't there any transfer fees for Food registrations?

As of 1 July 2021, the Food Act 1984 no longer allows food registrations to be transferred when there is a change in ownership.

All food registrations that are transferring to a new proprietor need to be applied for in the same manner as a new food registration.

Both the establishment fee and the registration fee are payable for all food registrations that require a change in ownership.

Can a Community Group or Sporting Group receive assistance paying fees?

To assist our Community & Sporting Groups we have discounted our Establishment and Registration fees by 50%.

Do I need to pay fees for both my fixed and temporary food premises?

Yes. If you have both a fixed and a temporary food premises you will incur both the establishment fee and the registration fee for each registration.

These fees cover the assessment and ongoing inspections at each of your registered premises.

What fees do I pay to do obtain a Pre-Transfer Inspection & Report?

You will need to pay the Pre-Transfer Inspection Report Fee. This is payable per premises, not registration. e.g. If you are looking at a premises that has both a food and a health registration you will only pay this fee once.

Apply online for a Pre-Transfer Inspection & Report for a premises you are interested in.

You are then required to pay fees per registration when you are ready to change/transfer each of the registrations into your name.

Are there any discounts if I have more than one registration?

No. The establishment fees and registration fees are payable for each registration that you require for your business.

These fees cover the cost of the relevant assessments and inspections required under each of the Acts.

Accomodation related registration fees

Accommodation Registration Fees

An establishment fee of $150 will be invoiced to you when we lodge your application. This fee is non-refundable.

The initial registration fee will be invoiced to you after the Health Officer has assessed and approved your application.

You are unable to trade in your premises until this fee has been paid in full.

Upon payment of the registration fee you will receive your registration certificate.

A fee of $112 is payable for each additional inspection at an accommodation premises after the first follow up inspection. This fee is payable before the Health Officer books their inspection with you.

How long is the registration valid?

The registration is valid until 31 December each year.

How do I renew my registration?

You will receive a Renewal Notice each November requesting payment. 

To ensure your business is registered to continue trading into the following year, you must pay by 31 December.

Aquatic Facility Registration Fees

There is no establishment fee payable for the registration of an Aquatic Facility.

After the Health Officer has assessed and approved your application you will receive your registration certificate.

Additional Inspection Fees

Domestic Animal Business registration fees

The registration fee is payable when you lodge your application.

After the Community Safety Officer has assessed and approved your application you will receive your Domestic Animal Business Registration.

You are unable to trade in your premises until your Registration Certificate has been issued.

Animal business registration fee questions

What does the Registration & Renewal Fee cover?

  • Assessment of the Initial Application and relevant site inspections to ensure compliance with the Domestic Animals Act 1994
  • Annual inspections to ensure compliance with Domestic Animals Act 1994 after renewal application is received
  • Payment of annual $20 State Government Levy per registration
  • Required inspections for education, complaints, compliance issues and enforcement action
  • Maintaining the Domestic Animal Business’ data on the state-wide Pet Exchange Register
  • Providing Council’s Responsible Pet Ownership Programs

Are the fees refundable?

The registration fee may be refundable, depending on your circumstances. If you believe you are eligible, apply online for a refund of your registration fee.

Why are there no pro-rata fees?

All Domestic Animal Business registrations are valid until 10 April each year.

If your initial registration is approved between 1 Feb 21 - 31 Jan 22 we will register your premises until 10 April 22.

If your initial registration is approved between 1 Feb 22 – 31 Jan 23 we will register your premises until 10 April 23.

This provides you with the remaining months of a current registration year at no charge.

Why is my registration renewal fee due by 10 March?

Your registration is valid until 10 April each year.

Clause 48 (2) of The Domestic Animals Act 1994 requires proprietors to apply for renewal of their registration no less than 30 days before the registration is due to expire.

 

Food registration fees (fixed premises)

Refer to our Streatrader Fees if you are registering a temporary food premises, mobile food van, vending machine or water truck.

Establishment fee

An establishment fee of $244 will be invoiced to you when we lodge your application. This fee is non-refundable.

The establishment fee for sporting and community groups is $122.

The fee is non-refundable

There are no fees to lodge a Class 4 Notification.

Please refer to our Streatrader Establishment Fees if you are registering a temporary food premises, mobile food van, vending machine or water truck.

A fee of $147 is payable for each additional inspection at a food premises after the first follow up inspection. This fee is payable before the Health Officer books their inspection with you.

This fee is non-refundable.

How do I renew my food registration?

You will receive a Renewal Notice each November requesting payment.

Footpath trading permit fees

The permit fee is payable when you lodge your application.

After the Community Safety Officer has assessed and approved your application you will receive your Footpath Trading Permit.

We do not transfer footpath trading permit between proprietors.

The permit fee may be refundable, depending on your circumstances. Apply for a refund of your permit fee.

Why is my registration renewal fee due by 30 November?

Your registration is valid until 31 December each year.

We require you to apply and pay for your renewal of registration by 30 November each year to allow enough time for the Community Safety Officers to approve all permits and issue the new permits before they expire.

This allows you to continue placing items on the footpath from 1 January each year.

One-off Hairdressing Registration Fee

Hairdressers that don’t include any high or medium risk beauty activities pay a one-off registration fee of $254.

Hairdressing Registrations are ongoing and are not required to be renewed.

Transfer fees are not applicable to one-off Hairdressing registrations.

A fee of $112 is payable for each additional inspection at the health & beauty premises after the first follow up inspection. This fee is payable before the Health Officer books their inspection with you.

This fee is non-refundable.

Roadside Trading permit fees

The permit fee is payable when you lodge your application.

After we have assessed and approved your application you will receive your Roadside Trading Permit.

What does the permit and renewal fee cover?

  • Assessment of the Initial Application and relevant site inspections to ensure compliance with the Neighbourhood Amenity Local Law 2020 and Streets & Roadside Trading Policy;
  • The ability to trade from the roadside throughout Yarra Ranges Council; and
  • Required inspections for education, complaints, compliance issues and enforcement action.

Streatrader Registration Fees (temporary food premises)

Streatrader registration establishment fee

An establishment fee of $122 will be added to your application when Council accepts your application via the Streatrader Customer Portal.

The establishment fee for community and sporting groups is $61.

The establishment fee is non-refundable.

Upon payment of the establishment fee your application will be allocated to a Health Officer for assessment.

There is no establishment fee for a Class 4 Notification.

Streatrader registration fees

These fees will be invoiced to you after the Health Officer has assessed and approved your application.

If you are applying for a short-term registration (eg. a period of 6 months or less) you will be invoiced 50% of the applicable full fee.

Upon payment of the fees you will receive your registration certificate.

The registration is valid until 31 December each year, unless you have applied for a short-term registration.

How do I renew my streatrader registration?

You will receive a Renewal Notice via the Streatrader portal each November requesting payment.
