Heritage Trades Day at Gulf Station

Could you survive a day on a Victorian farm 150 years ago?

Step back in time and discover the skills, crafts and traditions that shaped rural life at Heritage Trades Day, held at historic Gulf Station, just outside the township of Yarra Glen in the beautiful Yarra Valley.

On Sunday 25 October, this remarkable heritage farm will come alive with the sights and sounds of a bygone era, as skilled craftspeople demonstrate the traditional trades that were once part of everyday life.

Watch blacksmiths at work, see steam machinery in action and discover how everyday items were made by hand. From rope making and wood carving to wool spinning, lacemaking, basket weaving, barrel making and butter churning, there's plenty to fascinate visitors of all ages.

Families can explore the historic farm buildings, enjoy traditional demonstrations and discover what life was like before modern conveniences, when making, mending and growing were essential skills. There will also be live bush band music, food, coffee, plant and seedling sales, and plenty of opportunities to meet the people keeping these remarkable traditions alive.

This special event also celebrates 50 years of National Trust care and stewardship of Gulf Station, one of Victoria's most significant surviving historic farm complexes.

Whether you're a family looking for a different kind of day out, a history enthusiast, a gardener or simply curious about how things were once made, Heritage Trades Day offers a fascinating glimpse into Victoria's living history.
