Yarra Ranges Tree Management Department is committed to keeping our residents safe, while maintaining healthy and attractive trees. This includes pruning trees to meet regulations around electric lines within the declared areas, as defined by an agreement with AUSNET.
The declared areas include some of the highest bushfire risk areas of the Yarra Ranges, making our work even more important. Ensuring trees in the high-risk fire areas are pruned and compliant before the bushfire season is one of our main goals every year.
The declared areas are included in the maps below. You can open the map for each location and learn the progress of the pruning works in real time.
It is the practice of ensuring trees and vegetation are a safe distance from powerlines to prevent fire, electrocution and blackouts.
It involves trimming vegetation back from powerlines to a required minimum distance, which may be increased to account for growth and tree movement in the wind.
