Yarra Ranges Council hosted its annual Youth Mentoring Breakfast last weekend, celebrating the commitments and achievements of volunteer mentors.

More than 400 young people have participated in mentoring relationships over the last decade through Council-facilitated programs.

Council estimates that more than 4800 hours, worth about $115,000, have been donated by community members to assist young people to achieve their goals and aspirations.

Jindi Woraback participant, Damian Mauch, spoke at the event and reflected on his experience with the program, and the impact his mentoring relationship had on his development.

Damian said the guidance, encouragement and support he received from his mentor influenced his ability to make positive choices and foster a sense of self-acceptance.

Chandler Ward Councillor Tony Stevenson spoke at the breakfast and discussed his own experience as a Jindi Woraback volunteer mentor.
