General Provisions Local Law

Submissions close at 11:55PM on Sunday, 26 May 2019

Council is currently reviewing the General Provisions Local Laws and we’d like to know what you think.

Take our short survey, or have your say in person at a drop in session.

Our local laws are reviewed every 5-10 years to ensure they remain relevant to the changing needs of our municipality and represent the community as a whole.

The review is a chance for you to provide feedback on what local laws you may think need to be reformed to accommodate new community trends and expectations.

Food for your thoughts

Have your say online or in person to enter the draw to win one of four Yarra Valley food hampers.

What does the local law do?

The Yarra Ranges Local law helps Council to

  • Protect of the ‘look and feel’ of a  person’s property and the neighborhood - e.g. unsightly land, advertising signage, keeping of animals, graffiti
  • Promote a safe and healthy environment free from hazards on public and private land - e.g overhanging vegetation, burning off,  nature strip landscaping,
  • Protect shared community assets and land - e.g trading on the footpath, roadside trading, driveway crossovers
  • Describe the application of Councils functions and powers - e.g officer powers, use of enforcement tools and procedures, penalties, appeals and producing polices and guidelines

We’re asking Yarra Ranges residents and visitors to tell us:

  • What you think about our current local laws
  • Experiences you’ve had with the current local laws
  • What you think is working well
  • What you think can be improved

In October 2017 we asked for your feedback on the General Provisions Local Law and received an overwhelming response to the Open Air Burning Local Law.

As a result the General Provisions Local Law review was postponed until the Open Air Burning Local Law review was completed.

That doesn’t mean your initial feedback has gone to waste - we’ll still be using it to inform the review. If you’d like to provide further feedback we’d love to hear from you.
