Chirnside Urban Park Master Plan

Submissions close at 05:00PM on Sunday, 10 February 2019

Yarra Ranges Council is developing a Master Plan for an Urban Park in Chirnside Park, on the corner of Kimberley Drive and Black Springs Road (opposite the shopping centre).

We are conducting a survey through January and the beginning of February, which is available below, or can be filled out in person at Chirnside Park Shopping Centre at from 9am-5pm on Saturday, 12 January.

The survey is intended for people with an interest in community open space in Chirnside Park, and specifically this site.

You can find and fill out the survey here

We welcome responses from residents, visitors, shopping centre patrons, community groups and casual users of open space here in Chirnside Park, to help understand the needs of the community, now and in the future, and how the urban park might help address them.

What is a Master Plan?

Master Planning gives Council a strategy and process to develop facilities – such as the Urban Park – in response to identified community needs.

This consultation aims to:

  • Inspire the community about the possibilities for the space
  • Identify people or groups in the community who could benefit from more open space and recreational facilities
  • Plan for the future design and development of the park
  • Provide designs made in response to and in consideration of community and stakeholder feedback

The site, on the corner of Kimberley Drive and Black Springs Road, has been identified for potential open space development and facilities that can be used by people of all ages.

Our aim is to create a park that reflects the unique identify of the Chirnside Park community and the information gathered through the survey will help Council to plan for the future and ensure that aim is met.

The Master Plan will also take into account nearby open spaces and facilities, and will seek to improve the options available for the community and complement the existing nearby parks.

We will be holding a pop-up at the Chirnside Park Shopping Centre from 9am-5pm on Saturday, 12 January. You are welcome to come and speak with staff, and fill out a survey in person.

The survey is anonymous and should take about 10-15 minutes to complete.
