From a woman in her 70s who hadn’t picked up a paint brush in 50 years… To a two year old who was just learning what art is by painting with his dad… Not the Archies embodied the spirit of our creative community.
Not the Archies was a grassroots portraiture project that celebrated the artistic Yarra Ranges community at the end of 2019. More than 230 people got in touch with their creative side and painted a face of someone who was special to them. These marvellous faces graced the main streets of Healesville and Yarra Glen in the month-long Street Gallery. The painted and sketched portraits were on show in the windows of 90 traders, breathing life into the streetscape. Category winners were announced at the Awards Night, an evening of community spirit and creativity that honoured the incredible work by the participants.
