Why should you care about the Creative Industries Report?

Yarra Ranges Council recently released an independent Creative Industries Report.(PDF, 1MB) While council will use this report to focus on initiatives that will increase the economic size of the industry and vibrancy of our communities, this report can also be used by you to understand the industry you work in, areas of opportunity and growth, and how to promote your business.

Fashion

  • 2.4% of creative professionals in the Yarra Ranges worked in fashion, compared to 2.9% across Victoria.
  • The fashion industry experienced a growth rate of -2.8% in the Yarra Ranges between 2016-17.
  • The fashion industry added $0.9 million in value to the Yarra Ranges economy.

Literature, print, software and electronic media production

  • 12.3% of creative professionals in the Yarra Ranges worked in this industry, compared to 14.8% across Victoria.
  • The industry experienced a growth rate of -14.1% in the Yarra Ranges between 2016-17.
  • The industry added $23.8 million in value to the Yarra Ranges economy.

Broadcasting, electronic or digital media, and film

  • 7.7% of creative professionals in the Yarra Ranges worked in broadcasting/ electronic media/ digital media/ film, compared to 9.1% across Victoria.
  • The industry experienced a growth rate of 1.6% in the Yarra Ranges between 2016-17.
  • The industry added $49 million in value to the Yarra Ranges economy.

  • 28% of creative professionals in the Yarra Ranges worked in design, compared to 23.6% across Victoria.

Performing and visual arts including museums

  • 15.5% of creative professionals in the Yarra Ranges worked in performing arts/ visual arts/ museums, compared to 8.9% across Victoria.
  • The industry experienced a growth rate of 13.4% in the Yarra Ranges between 2016-17.
  • The industry added $13.4 million in value to the Yarra Ranges economy.

Libraries and archives

  • 2.1% of creative professionals in the Yarra Ranges worked in libraries/ archives, compared to 1.6% across Victoria.
  • The libraries and archives industry experienced a growth rate of -25.6% in the Yarra Ranges between 2016-17.
  • The industry added $3.5 million in value to the Yarra Ranges economy.
