Belgrave Lantern Parade keeps community spirit aglow

The Belgrave Lantern Parade will continue to light up the community this year, with the cherished festival reimagined in line with COVID restrictions.

The Lantern Parade is a Belgrave tradition, where 10,000 people flock to the streets with their beautiful handmade lanterns, to mingle with their community in an explosion of colour, sound, and of course, light.

This year, local artists will be hosting a series of online lantern-making workshops. The workshops, which run over a month from May, are open for all to participate. Lantern Kits will be made available for the first 100 people that sign up.

This fresh new take on the Lantern Parade is a symbol of positivity, inviting creativity into our homes. Families can connect working together on a project. At a time of physical isolation, the sense of community connection is strong.

The lanterns will be ready to light up Belgrave streets and homes in time for the Winter Solstice on 20 June.

The Belgrave Lantern Parade is keeping community connection alive at a time where we can all use a little extra light in our lives.
