Panel of business women sharing their journey
Cleo Silva started a coffee roasting business after her husband built a small coffee roaster (out of a bread maker) and began roasting coffee at home, 11 years ago. A combination of Cleo’s passion for taste and her husband Wayne’s technical skills have taken their business from the farmers market circuit, to a full time business - and renowned name in Melbourne’s hyper-competitive coffee scene.
Cleo is passionate about the value of an engaged local community and is now the Yarra Ranges Tourism representative for CEDA & helps manage the communications to membership base.
If Cleo had one message for other businesses, it would be to 'spend time on your business, not just in your business.'
You could say Jodie Caldwell comes from a tight-knit family. She runs her business, Mooroolbark Wool, The Aussie Knitting Company, with her sister Aleisha, their parents working alongside. The family support each other through the ups and downs of both business and life, creating a fun, supportive environment. She looks to create a team that shares the family business’s ethos and passion.
Jodie’s been in business for 18 years and is an active member of the Mooroolbark Traders Group.
The family have owned Mooroolbark Wool for nearly 30yrs, and of course there’s been different challenges along the way. But if she could give one piece of advice to other business it would be ‘ask for help – you don’t have to go it alone’
