Almost every important moment we celebrate in our lives is tied to music.

Although all countries have an official anthem, an unofficial anthem is invariably a popular piece of music that has been chosen by the people as a way to create solidarity across all barriers of age and background.

What makes a great people’s anthem? Plenty of attitude and a great tune that includes a rousing chorus that enables a collective “call to arms” either to win a sporting event or to resist unfair political regimes. Whatever the process, it will be stirring and heartfelt!

Ultimately the anthem serves to express cultural values and identity both to the citizens of a country and to the rest of the world.

This concert will have audiences clapping and singing along as Dandenong Ranges Orchestra present some of the most loved “unofficial” anthems of the world.
