Celebrating the Trailblazers of the Yarra Ranges
This event is currently closed for ticket sales with the anticipation we will re-open sales when we can, pending more information on how we will manage capacity.
NEW DATE & VENUE: Yarra Ranges Regional Museum, Thu 15 Jul 7.30pm
Join celebrated writer Lindy Schneider as she dives into the stories of extraordinary local women, Heather Ellis and Suyin Chan.
Yarra Ranges is full of Trailblazers – remarkable women who have made an impact on our place. The Yarra Ranges Regional Museum is celebrating some of these local champions and agents of change in an exhibition called Trailblazers: Women of the Yarra Ranges.
This special evening is a personal journey exploring the lives of two of the exhibition’s leading ladies. Hear their inspiring stories and have the opportunity to ask questions at this intimate event.
Heather Ellis has been advocating for women with a HIV positive diagnosis for two decades. Informed by her own lived experience of the lack of targeted information and understanding of the challenges facing women with HIV, she has dedicated her life to changing community perceptions and to helping other positively diagnosed women tell their story.
Suyin Chan is often referred to as a backbone of her community, inspiring others to volunteer and contribute to the community she loves. She is the force behind the 2010 creation of the ‘pay-what-you-can afford’ Koha Community Café, the Warburton Community Space and Community Garden and led youth to campaign for the Warburton Skate Park. She will be joined by her daughter, Hannah Mahoney, who was awarded the Young Citizen of the Year 2018 for community leadership.
Bring your friends together and make a night of it with dinner before the show from Lilydale’s lively dining scene. This promises to be a remarkable evening.
This event celebrates women, but it’s not just for women. We welcome everyone.
If you are interested in this event, be sure to check out the exhibition currently showing at the Museum until 25 July. Trailblazers: Women of the Yarra Ranges tells the remarkable stories of women, their achievements and their lasting impacts on the region and beyond. From Edna Walling and Dame Nellie Melba to Aunty Dr Doseena Fergie, Rebecca Barnard, Nan Francis and Suyin Chan, learn how these women have shaped our culture and community in the past, present and future.
