For the Love of Trees, Curator’s Talk and Walk Yarra Ranges Regional Museum Weds 23 Oct, 2pm Free, booking required
Learn about the vibrant community planting days that established the beautiful streetscapes of our picturesque district, and view photographs of bearded men with shovels, finely dressed ladies, twirling maypole dancers, and the local orchardist that started it all.
Join us for an inspiring afternoon reflecting on community volunteering that has left a wonderful legacy for future generations.
The exhibition and walking tour draw on the collections of the Yarra Ranges Regional Museum, the Yarra Ranges Heritage Network, and the booklet The Growing History of Lilydale’s Trees by Sandy Ross, published by Lilydale and District Historical Society (which will be for sale in the shop!).
Opened in 2011, Yarra Ranges Regional Museum promotes a greater understanding of the rich and diverse cultural heritage of the Yarra Ranges region through exhibitions, collections and programs. The Museum is custodian of a collection of over 13,000 cultural objects, including Indigenous belongings related to Coranderrk Aboriginal Station and a sub-collection related to opera diva Dame Nellie Melba (1861-1931).
Yarra Ranges Regional Museum is open Wed - Sun, 10am - 4pm and entry is free.
