Free Garden Secateurs and Sheers Sharpening service
Starting in late March, Montrose Mens Shed have partnered with us once again, to offer a free garden tool sharpening service to Healing in our Gardens residents for your garden secateurs and sheers.
Are you interested in creating a raised garden bed for your plants or in your garden?
We are partnering with the Montrose Mens Shed and a wonderful local business to bring some free raised garden boxes your way.
The boxes are approx. 1200mm x 800mm x 400mm and come with a detachable base. They are made from heat treated timber with metal hinges and can be stacked to make them higher and collapsed flat for transport or moving. There may also be an option to include a raised base.
Register your interest as we finalise the quantity of boxes that could be available.
Kabloom - Festival of Flowers - Saturday 25 March - Tuesday 25 April
Our Community Nursery Partner - Tesselaar, have once again shared a number of free tickets with Healing in our Gardens for residents to attend to the annual KaBloom Festival of Flowers (children under 16 have free entry when accompanied by an adult).
KaBloom is a kaleidoscope of colour and garden inspiration with things to see and do for all the family.
A limited number of free tickets are available and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
Nature walk - May Moon Track, Kalorama Park - Wednesday 29 March 10.30am - 12.30pm.
Join Annette Muir, local plant ecologist and Healing in our Gardens Partner, and Friends of Kalorama Park, one of our Community Group Partners, for a ‘walk and talk’ along the May Moon Track, Mount Dandenong Tourist Road, Kalorama to learn about the local plants and forest ecology, as well as plans for the nature trail.
There will be a flat short walk as well as a longer walk, and refreshments will be available afterwards.
Bookings for this event are essential.
Supporting Sustainability through Composting - Wednesday 29 March 11am - 12pm
40% of average household waste is compostable! Cut down your food and organic waste, enrich your soil and plant health, and support sustainability through composting. Learn how and what you can compost, and the factors involved in choosing the right type of composting system for you. Bookings required. Free event

Dandenongs Weed Blitz - 1 April & 29 April
Had enough of weeds? Council is offering a free environmental weed tipping day at Baynes Park, Baynes Park Road, Monbulk between 9am - 3pm.
There is no limit to how much you can bring on the day, no bookings are required, and tipping is available to anyone who resides in the Yarra Ranges area.

Belgrave Food Garden Harvest Festival - Sunday 2 April 12pm - 4pm
Our Community Gardens Partner - Belgrave Food Garden, 1624 Burwood highway, Belgrave is holding their Harvest Festival and any Healing in our Gardens residents are very welcome to come along and join in.
No need to book, this free event will be a great day for all the family, as well as being able to connect with like-minded gardeners, share and learn more about creating and caring for an edible garden.
Nest Box Collection -Sassafras - Wednesday 19 April 4pm - 6pm
Our Mens Sheds have been working hard creating nest boxes for you. We now have more free Rosella or Krefft's Glider nest boxes available for collection from Sassafras Reserve, Cnr Mountain Highway and Mount Dandenong Tourist Road, Sassafras.
If you haven't picked up your pre-ordered nest box yet, haven't ordered one yet, or perhaps you've got one and would like a 2nd nest box for your property - this is an event for you.
Bookings are essential - so we know we have enough nest boxes with us on the day!
Yarra Valley Autumn Plant Fair & Garden Expo - Saturday 22 April - Sunday 23 April
Our Community Nursery Partner - Larkman Nurseries have once again enabled Healing in our Gardens to offer residents Free Tickets to their fantastic Autumn Plant Fair and Garden Expo (children under 16 have free entry when accompanied by an adult).
The Autumn Fair promises new opportunities to meet and chat with growers, garden and plant specialists, listen to expert guest speakers on the main stage, see and purchase plants and immerse yourself in all things garden related.
A limited number of free tickets are available and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
Belgrave Food Garden - Weekday Dig In - Thursday 27 April 2pm - 3pm
Our Community Gardens Partner - Belgrave Food Garden hold this drop-in style event the 4th Thursday of every month, and any Healing in our Gardens residents are very welcome to come along and join in.
No need to book, this event is a great way to connect with like-minded gardeners share skills and learn more about creating and caring for an edible garden.
