Do I need a planning permit?

Step 1.Enter the address

Step 2.View the zones, overlays and aerial map 

The map and zones and overlays will be displayed, these are the planning controls for this particular property. All properties are covered by a planning zone which states how the land can be developed or built on and what is prohibited.

Not all land has an overlay yet some may be affected by more than one overlay. If an overlay applies the land may have some special feature for example Landslip, flood risk or significant vegetation.

Step 3.Tell us what you would like to do 

Type your proposal and select from the list (e.g. subdivide) and click search. This will display a summary and ask if you are proposing any additional works (e.g. fence). You can change the proposal at any time by clicking the blue edit next to the proposal and choose another use or development rather than starting over.

Click save and next to continue. 

Step 4.View the outcome

The outcome screen will give you an overview of the information you provided and will tell you whether your proposal is possible and advise if any planning permit is required for your proposal. If you do not require a planning permit you can then check if a building permit is required.

Click next to view the rules that apply.

Step 5.View the rules and print a copy for your records

The rules page will display a summary of the information you provided and links to the relevant clauses in the planning scheme that may influence the outcome.  Please read these carefully and print a copy for your records.
