Community members are being encouraged to provide feedback on Council’s Draft Parking Management Framework, which will provide guidance for future decision-making relating to parking across Yarra Ranges.

The Draft Parking Management Framework sets out the main principles Council will use to manage parking on public land in a consistent, fair and transparent way to benefit residents, business operators and visitors, and to improve safety

It will also outline how parking will be managed by using restrictions, enforcement, permits, paid parking and digital parking solutions.

Yarra Ranges Mayor, Cr Sophie Todorov, said that the Framework comes at an important time with expected population growth and increased visitation to Yarra Ranges forecasted over the coming years.

“This framework will guide Council in being able to deliver a level of control in terms of how we manage public car parking spaces across Yarra Ranges,” Cr Todorov said.

“What this framework will do is help facilitate greater turnover where required, and fairness when it comes to parking, which will lead to a reduction in congestion and improve access to local businesses and points of interest.

We are diverse in Yarra Ranges between our hills, valley and urban areas, so it’s important to note that this Framework isn’t simply a ‘one size fits all’ approach to parking, it merely provides options for us to consider if, and when, we need to make changes.

This Framework also responds to the issues outlined in our Integrated Transport Strategy, which highlights the dependance of private car use and concerns the community has around population growth and what that might mean for parking congestion.

The other important aspect of this Framework is that it will help us improve community safety, township amenity and activity for local businesses.

I really encourage our residents to take a look over this draft document and provide  feedback on any areas  that might not be clear or needs further information.”

Community members have until Sunday 8 September to leave their feedback.

The Parking Management Framework is a result of Council’s Integrated Transport Strategy, a document that maps out how Council will improve transport connections for people cycling, walking and driving throughout the region.
