Volunteer with Yarra Ranges Council

Meals on Wheels - Yarra Junction

We are currently seeking volunteers to assist with Meals on Wheels in Yarra Junction. You could assist in supporting older residents to stay in their own homes by delivering meals and ensuring they have regular contact with the community.

Our roster, which runs weekly or fortnightly, involves volunteers picking up meals at Yarra Junction by 9.30am and delivering meals to the surrounding area before 11.30am.

Volunteers and residents are usually matched to the same day to build relationships. Many Meals on Wheels recipients live with social isolation and value the interactions with volunteers.

Potential volunteers must be over 18 years old and hold a valid driver’s licence. Volunteers use their own vehicle and are reimbursed for petrol costs.

Register your interest.

Bookaburra storytime

Family and Children’s Services are keen to hear from residents who are interested in becoming a volunteer storyteller or playgroup helper.

Reading to children has enormous benefits on their ability to succeed at school and learning. Reading from a very young age can have a positive effect on a child’s emotional, social and language development.

Volunteers are assessed for suitability, trained and supported to read to groups of parents and their young children (aged 0-5yrs) at a range of community venues .
