World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 2019

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) is commemorated each year on June 15 to highlight one of the worst manifestations of ageism and inequality in our society, elder abuse.

Elder abuse is an act which causes harm to an older person and is carried out by someone they know and trust such as a family member or friend.

Last year children from The Patch Primary School helped create a video for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, as part of a Yarra Ranges Council project.

The video features poems written and spoken by Council’s Positive Ageing Reference Group, about the isolation and negativity people feel while experiencing elder abuse.
