The evidence in Yarra Ranges
In 2013-14, 1,372 family violence incidents were reported to police.
Children were present at 35 per cent of all incidents.
During this time Yarra Ranges had the second highest rate of reported family violence incidents among the seven local government areas in the Eastern Metropolitan Region of Melbourne.
A 2009 KPMG study showed domestic violence and sexual assault perpetrated against women costs the nation $13.6 billion per year.
By 2021, the figure is likely to rise to $15.6 billion if additional action does not occur.
About 15 per cent (1,264) of Eastern Domestic Violence Service (EDVOS) clients for 2015-16 (8,624) were listed as residing in the Yarra Ranges.
