Case Study: Montagues
Montagues is a fruit marketing and production business in the far southern boundary of the Yarra Ranges municipality. In 2015, Montagues approached Yarra Ranges Council’s Economic Development and Investment Team to collaborate and discuss their need to do a significant upgrade to their business.
They begun their journey working with council through the Priority Investment Projects (PIP) process, which allowed them to discuss developing a manufacturing and packing facility as well as introducing hospitality into to their business, which was something they had never done before. The PIP process worked alongside their business to help navigate their way through the complexities of building within a green wedge zone.
The PIP process provides a one-point-of-contact approach, working with the business to navigate through the various council departments involved, including Economic Development and Investment, Planning and Major Projects. Going through PIP helps to make an investment process smoother, more efficient and can provide a whole-council response to ensure significant investments are supported through the planning process.
This case study shows the variety of ways in which Council can assist businesses, from assisting in obtaining planning permits, linking them with Government departments to advocating on their behalf.
