Lilydale Quarry Redevelopment
Cave Hill - Lilydale Quarry is approximately 163 hectares in size. The Quarry is located next to Box Hill Institute’s Lilydale Lakeside Campus.
The limestone quarry ceased operations in 2015. In 2017 there was a change in ownership from Sibelco Australia to a Consortium (Intrapac Property, in joint venture with Bayport Group and Hume Partners).
The following announcements were made on the quarry site in 2017:
Select site components were added to the Victorian Register of historically significant sites. This included the quarry pit, associated structures and limestone processing plant.
Minister for Planning (Richard Wynne) released the Victorian Planning Authority’s (VPA) Statement of Expectations. The statement reflects the Government’s priorities for the year. It identifies Lilydale Quarry as one of the strategic urban renewal projects on the VPA’s work program. Council will continue to work with the VPA in this regard.
Development of the quarry site is occurring in stages. A planning permit was issued in 2014 to support new residential housing. The new housing is to be established in the southern area fronting Hull Road (Stage 1).
The current property owners continue to invest in the rehabilitation of the remaining site.
The property owners are working with Council to progress a plan for the site and a planning scheme amendment to rezone the land.
The planning scheme amendment process will involve community input.
This project will have major impacts on communities across Lilydale, Chirnside Park and Mooroolbark.
We are managing a careful planning and consultation process throughout this project. Our aim is to ensure positive social, economic and environmental outcomes while reducing negative impacts.
