Landscape of the Flinders Ranges by JACQUI CHRISTIANSA

Jacqui Christians looks to the rich, ancient geology by drawing into layers of desert colour, and scribbling linear marks that trace the rock uplifts and rugged escarpments. This sparse beauty is reflected in bulging ridgelines and hilly vistas, nuanced in the simplified vibrant shapes portrayed in Christians’ work. There are stylised hints of sparse, almost dehydrated flora which tell a story of harsh struggle and survival in the arid landscape.

Coming from a temperate forest region, Christians seeks inspiration by travelling to the desert, sitting in the heat and feeling the place. By studying the land, shape and colour, Christians can visualise its story into strikingly beautiful and harsh paintings of the region.
