  • Community safety a priority in animal management prosecutions

Community safety a priority in animal management prosecutions

Community safety is our priority and we have a zero tolerance to dog attacks on people and animals.

97% of our prosecutions are for dog attacks on people or animals.

Following an incident, our Rangers investigate and take appropriate action if necessary.

Prosecution numbers have fluctuated over the past three years, which follows a similar trend to other Interface Councils. The overall reduction since 2016 indicates that dog owners have better control over their animals.

Serious animal management requests are addressed promptly by Council, so the median response time to dog attacks is under two hours.

  • How do we reunite pets with their families?

How do we reunite pets with their families?

We promote responsible pet ownership and provide animal management services to the community including monitoring, registration, enforcement and education.

Our team are committed to reuniting pets with their owners. Our Rangers work in partnership with Animal Aid to return or rehome as many animals as possible. Council has a new practice of proactively reuniting animals with their owners before the animal is brought to the pound.

Through our responsible pet ownership program we encourage all animal owners to register and microchip their pets.

This ensures we can identify pets and reunite them with their owners as quickly as possible.
