The garden in winter...
Many Australian plants like the cooler weather and continue to grow slowly over the winter months. Something is always in bloom in Karwarra, no matter which time of the year. At present, the Banksias and Heaths are making a glorious show, with successive groups of Black and Yellow-crested cockatoos vying for the banksia seeds - although never at the same time, it would seem.
The cockatoos are also responsible for the constant sound of bark being ripped off the acacias as they search for tasty grubs in the trunks. Many of the acacias are showing signs of coming into flower as the days start to lengthen towards Spring.
Work has begun on the semi-circular beds defining the new entrance at Karwarra. Athough recent rain has not helped keep the mud under control, this section will eventually create a fascinating focal point drawing the eye of visitors into the garden. Cold days have not discouraged visitors from taking advantage of the free entry period.
