Common Name: Common Raspwort
Synonym:
Family: Haloragaceae
Size: 10-30cm x 20-40cm
Description: Wiry, erect perennial herb with slightly 4-ribbed stems covered in sharp stiff hairs.
Leaves: Pairs of lance-shaped leaves, 0.6-1.9cm x 2-7mm, with stiff hairs. Margins have 4-8 small teeth.
Flowering: Loose terminal spikes of tiny flowers, bracts reddish.
Flower Colour: Green to reddish
Flowering Time: September to February
Growing Conditions: Widespread in moist to dry well drained soils in dry forests, scrubs and heaths. Full sun to semi shade.
Garden Use: Plant as an understorey under established trees. Stems have a raspy feel.
