Banksia spinulosa var. cunninghammii

Common Name: Hairpin Banksia
Synonym: Banksia cunninghamii
Family: Proteaceae
Size: 2-4m x 2-5m
Description: Upright to rounded dense shrub. This subspecies does not have a lignotuber.
Leaves: Narrow dark green leaves, downy pale brown below, pointed, with a few teeth towards the end, 2-7cm x 2-5mm.
Flowering: Dense bottlebrush flowerhead with black hooked styles, to 20cm long. Seeds retained in the cone until branch dies or breaks.
Flower Colour: Orange-yellow and black
Flowering Time: April - July
Growing Conditions: Moist well drained clay soils in open forests. Frost tolerant. Full sun, semi shade.
Garden Use: Excellent screening shrub, suitable for underplanting eucalypts. Pruning will encourage bushiness.
