Common Name: Green Rush

Size: 0.4-1.7m x 0.6-1.5m
Description: Densely tufted perennial rush spreading from underground stems. Shiny erect bright green stems to 3mm diam. with raised ridges. Pith white, open, usually with large air spaces.
Leaves: Leaves reduced to a sheath to 28cm long, brown to reddish brown towards the base.
Flowering: Clusters of flowers separated by bare branchlets; 3 stamens. Main bract continues above flowers for 30cm. Capsules reddish-brown, flattened on top, as long or longer than flower.
Flower Colour: Straw-coloured
Flowering Time: December to February.
Growing Conditions: Moist to wet soils in forests by watercourses, drains and dam margins. Full sun, semi to dappled shade.
Garden Use: Wet areas and pond and dam walls. Excellent habitat plant.
