| Description: | Slender tufted perennial sedge spreading from very short underground stems. Stiff erect flowering stems are ridged, round in cross section to 1.5mm wide, nodeless. |
| Leaves: | Basal leaves only, similar to stems in size and shape, or reduced to sheaths; sheath dull, reddish or straw-coloured. |
| Flowering: | Erect, oblong flowerhead 4-30cm long, few 1-flowered spikelets scattered along branches. Bract at base of flowerhead shorter than flowerhead. Nut to 3.6mm, shiny, yellow-brown to black, round. |
