Household Chemical Collection
Most properties have unwanted products stored in the house, garage or garden shed: old cleaning products, left over paint, out of date weed killer and used brake fluid. Theyre out of sight out of mind. Sustainability Victoria manage a Free household chemical disposal program.
What can be disposed of through this program?
- Unwanted household cleaners
- garden chemicals (insecticides, pesticides, fungicides and herbicides)
- automotive chemicals (anti freeze, transmission fluids, batteries and battery acid, brake fluid, car wax solvent, fuels and oils)
- workshop chemicals (paint, paint strippers, solvent based glues, varnish and wood preservatives)
- other hazardous household products (aerosol cans, insect sprays, pest poisons, mothballs, smoke detectors and pharmaceuticals)
Please note that farm, industrial and commercial use chemicals will not be accepted.
Please remember to take care when transporting chemicals
- ensure all lids are tightly fitted
- place liquids on a tray to avoid spills
- pack powders and solids securely
- keep corroding chemical such as peroxide away from all other materials
- travel with your car windows down if carrying flammable or odorous materials
- double wrap old liquid containers in plastic bags to prevent leaking.

Drum Muster Collection
As part of the national Drum Muster program, residents & farmers can dispose of clean, non returnable crop production and animal health chemical drums at the Coldstream Recovery and Waste Transfer Station, Ingram Road, Colstream.
Containers will only be accepted if:
- they have the Drum Muster logo
- they are free of residue, on the inside and outside
- they have been flushed, pressure rinsed or triple rinsed before bringing to the collection centre
Containers will be accepted between 8.30am and 4.30pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. For loads of 50 or more containers, please call for an appointment
