Recreation Services Team
Recreation Services is responsible for the planning and management Council's sports and recreation facilities and open space areas including:
65 active sports fields spread over 47 reserves
-
Many shared use trails for pedestrians, cyclists and equestrian riders including the notable Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail
-
4 key Skate and BMX facilities
-
149 tennis courts
-
8 sports and aquatic facilities, including outdoor swimming pools.
Recreation Services also works in the following areas:

We liaise with over 350 clubs, groups and organisation's who participate in a range of 55 leisure activities ranging from archery to yoga

Strategic planning and policy development

Open Space Planning.
Recreation Newsletter
The Recreation Newsletter is produced every six months to keep the community informed of Council sport and recreation projects, initiatives and events.
The Recreation Newsletter is also a free resource for Sport and Recreation Clubs to promote their initiatives, events and achievements to the wider community.
Clubs are welcome to submit articles and events by contacting Fiona Christopher at f.christopher@yarraranges.vic.gov.au directly or via the online form.

Funding
There are a range of funding providers available who can provide financial assistance to club projects, events or the purchase of equipment.

Sport and Recreation Victoria provides grants and funding to support groups from local community clubs through to the elite level. Funding is available for a range of activities, from improving or building new facilities to putting in place community projects and programs.

Volunteer Support
Council recognises the important role volunteers play in operation of sport and recreation clubs in the Yarra Ranges. Without their generous commitment of time and skills, many sport and recreation clubs would struggle to survive.

Volunteer XCHANGE

The Volunteer XCHANGE program is a free service established by the Yarra Ranges Council to connect community groups and their one-off or short term projects with volunteers who would like to share their passion, skills and talents.

| Eastern Volunteers |
A not for profit organisation established in 1976, that provides volunteer recruitment and community transport to people living in the Cities of Maroondah, Whitehorse and the Yarra Ranges.

Seasonal Tenancy
Many of Council's sports grounds are jointly utilised by cricket during the summer months and football or soccer during the winter months. The respective clubs at these facilities operate under a signed Seasonal Tenancy Agreement with Council to ensure the facilities at the sports ground are properly maintained and managed accordingly.
An end of season handover meeting is conducted twice a year (at the conclusion of the summer and winter seasons).
