Road Maintenance
Did you know there are over 3100 roads in Yarra Ranges? The total length of our road network is over 2300 kilometres (equivalent to a trip from Melbourne to Townsville). Council and VicRoads share the responsibility for road maintenance within Yarra Ranges.
Our arterial, or main roads are managed and maintained by VicRoads and any requests for maintenance to the actual road surface or traffic light faults should be directed to VicRoads on 13 11 70. To see a list of roads managed by VicRoads please click on the link on this page.
All other roads are maintained by Council. They are inspected annually and faults are programmed for repair. Routine maintenance work on unsealed roads occurs two to six times a year depending on traffic use and other local conditions. Sealed road maintenance works are programmed as required.

Major Improvements
Major improvements on unsealed roads, including road sealing and drainage improvements, are generally carried out as part of a special charge scheme. Landowners contribute to the total cost of the works and all properties benefiting from the improvements are included in the scheme.
