Safe Operation of Pools, Spas and Water Play Facilities

New laws to regulate the operation of aquatic facilities effective 1 January 2010.

The introduction of these laws coincides with the introduction of the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 and the Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations 2009 which replaces the Health Act 1958 and 10 sets of regulations.

 

Who does this law affect?

Operators of swimming pools and other aquatic facilities including those in hotels, motels, cottages, B&Bs, health and residential, care facilities, therapeutic services, adult services and householders.

Why was this law introduced?

The objective of these laws is to ensure that these facilities are effectively managed to prevent the spread of water borne illness.
