Greener Living

Yarra Ranges is fortunate to have some of the most remarkable and ecologically significant environmental assets in Victoria and Australia. It is a place of magnificent natural biodiversity, and includes all three of Victoria’s land-based State emblems - the Common Heath, Helmeted Honeyeater and Leadbeater’s Possum. Together with its high quality land, extensive waterways and clean air, the shire's natural environment is of world class standard and worthy of the highest level of stewardship.

Protecting and enhancing our natural environment and reducing the impacts of our everyday consumption and waste generation - locally to globally - are challenges, opportunities and obligations that together as a community we must continue to respond to, now and into the long term future.

In this section you'll find useful information to help you reduce your impact on our environment, remove weeds from your garden, learn about indigenous plants and the importance of using them in your garden and as well as links to many community groups that dedicate their time and resources to help preserve their local environment.
