Volunteer Storyteller Project
The Early Years team are leading the way in an exciting new literacy program that will bring story time sessions to children all over Yarra Ranges and give parents the skills to lead interactive reading activities at home.
The Volunteer Storyteller Program will see volunteers lead interactive storytelling sessions at mobile library outreach services, allowing more children to benefit from the popular activity.
Story time sessions are a fantastic way to engage children in reading in a fun and interactive way. They give parents ideas on how they can spark a child’s imagination at home and encourage them to take an interest in reading and story telling.
Eastern Regional Libraries will provide volunteers with the resources and skills to ensure sessions are educational and fun for children.
The pilot has been funded by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development through the Yarra Ranges Early Literacy Project and Best Start.
The Early Years team are now seeking expressions of interest from volunteers to take part in the Volunteer Storyteller Project. Volunteers will be selected on their suitability and must undergo police and working with children check. If you are interested in particiapting please complete the expression of interest below and we'll keep you up to date on the project.
