Registering Your Pet
All dogs and cats must be registered
State legislation requires that all dogs and cats must be registered with Council by the age of three months.
You can download the animal registration form or pick up a copy at one of our Community Links.
Completed application forms together with relevant fees should be lodged in person at one of our Community Links. Please note that all animals must be microchipped and proof provided before registration will be accepted.
Upon registration you will be given a lifetime tag that must be worn on your pets collar at all times. If your pets registration tag has been lost or damaged you can get a free replacement tag from any Yarra Ranges Community Link.
If you are a new resident within Yarra Ranges Council and can provide proof of microchipping and current registration with a previous Council you can transfer the registration for a fee of $2.50 per animal.
Microchipping and desexing
All cats and dogs registered with a council for the first time must be microchipped prior to registration.
As of 10 April 2010 all cats being registered for the first time must be desexed. Council can assist pension card holders who wish to have their pet desexed by providing an Australian Veterinary Association voucher which entitles them to a reduced veterinary fee.
